Who on earth are like the Pharisees of old, and why?

The Christians in Jesus' day were very few in number...they had the Jewish religion and legalism to contend with, as well as the self-righteous pharisees. Is there a Pharisaic "counter-part" today that modern Christians must deal with, and how could they be identified??
