Are fundamentalists really modern day Pharisees?

Some is literal and some is symbolic, but with basic biblical hermeneutics you can easily determine which is which. but there is a happy medium, you my friend are at extreme left on this and on the right are your fundamentalist. so you are no better in your reasoning.

Who on earth are like the Pharisees of old, and why?

The Christians in Jesus' day were very few in number...they had the Jewish religion and legalism to contend with, as well as the self-righteous pharisees. Is there a Pharisaic "counter-part" today that modern Christians must deal with, and how could they be identified??

Didn't God send Jesus to show himself through his action?

God send Jesus to show us how to live with our sins. We are nasty filthy sinners that need to be washed in blood. Wash yourself in blood my friend. Wash your disgusting sins away with human blood spilled on the cross by torturous Roman soldiers so that you may live eternally as a saint.

Are Pharisees Jews? or They just a political group that was among the Jews during Jesus time?

I am studying the words of God. And, I am reading about the man that was blind and Jesus made him see. First the Pharisees questioned the man about his blindness. Then the Jews questioned his parents and the son about his blindness. So, to clear matter up I wanted to know are Pharisees Jews or not? Are these two different groups of people? And, Who were Moses disciples? the Pharisees or Jews? Thank you so much. Only biblical people reply.

Was paul the apostle the greatest man who ever lived?

Born as saul of tarsus, a jew who was also a roman citizen. He "held the clothes" of those who stoned stephan, the first christian martyr. Who spoke of christ, who had been killed by the pharisee jews. And, infuriated, they then killed him. But the boy had been impressed by what he heard from the man, and the way he died. Forgiving his enemies.

Questions on Christian Life?

Doesn't it raise a red flag somewhere in your mind that something that is supposed to be about a personal relationship between you and your god is instead telling you how to dress and what music to listen to? Don't you ever wonder what else they might be trying to control?

Are there still Pharisees? Do Christians hate them as much as Jesus and John the Baptist?

These were the Jewish religious leaders of the time, and they were far more interested in gaining materially and being recognized publicly than in leading their congregations. Though we may not actually see "Pharisees" today, most definitely see the same kind of mindset amongst the religious leaders in the world. Think of the televangelist who builds the huge mansion and puts in GOLD plated toilets... the preacher who drives a new car every year and wears $3000 suits.....the guru who lives on a 5000 acre ashram in Asia and has people faining all over his every movement. This is the kind of misuse of faith that Jesus foretold and was condemning in this scripture.

Who was the Pharisee who was personally converted by Jesus Christ?

There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus who came to Jesus secretly at night, later spoke up for him in the Sanhedrin, and later still helped Joseph of Arimathea bury him, so he may be the one your're looking for. But Saul/Paul wasn't just struck blind. On the road to Damascus, he heard a celestial voice demanding, "Why do you persecute me?" and he evidently just KNEW that it was God speaking to him, because he replied, "Who are you, Lord?" When the voice replied, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," that contentious Pharisee became a Christian.

To Mormons: Why doesn't the church keep the Sabbath?

We do recognize the Sabbath. However, Christians started worshiping on the day that Christ rose from the dead, which was on a Sunday. I think you need to do a bit more study yourself to realize this.

What is a 21-century example of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector parable ?

An example of a 21st Century Pharisee would be someone who tithes and tells everyone that they tithe.

How can Jesus be without sin after he broke the law? back me up here Atheists lol?

Keep in mind Mr.X that Jesus as God's Son and a Jew would never violate the Mosaic Law. Remember that the religious leaders watered down God's Word with man made teachings and traditions that proved to be a burden to the people. The Law simply stated that one must not work on the Sabbath which the man mentioned in Numbers 15 obviously was doing. But the religious leaders added to God's Law with their own strict interpretation of what they felt was a Sabbath violation, accusing Jesus and his disciples of harvesting and threshing when they simply were plucking grain to eat. Jesus showed in that same chapter of Mark that his forefather David and his men stopped at God's tabernacle and ate the sacred loaves of presentation which only the priests were supposed to eat. But the bread was already removed from before God and replaced by fresh loaves. So David and his men were not guilty of any violation. Matthew 12:5 shows that even the Jewish priests in the temple treated the Sabbath as not sacred but weren't guilty of any violation. Why? Because of carrying on the work of preparing animal sacrifices for the Jews for forgiveness of their sins. Jesus Christ showed the Pharisees that as the Son of Man he is Lord of the Sabbath.

Does anyone want to do a Vampire Diaries rp on Polyvore?

Since no one is answering me on there. Does anyone want to do a Vampire Diaries roleplay? My username is MarinaraSauce. I posted two sets about it.

Do many Christians find it impossible to resist becoming a Pharisee and to add extra salvation requirements...?

I'm also told you can't be a homosexual, you must be baptized, etc. Strange how much fine print comes along with "salvation by faith alone."

On Tuesday of Holy Week what was Jesus' spiritual message in the Tribute to Caesar?

In essence, when you give yourself over to the Savior, you are supposed to be "no longer of this world". However, you still have to live in this world until such a time you take your final Earthly breath. This teaching is designed to instruct us to do what we have to in terms of living by mans law (eg not getting arrested and things, paying taxes) so as to show a willingness to submit to authority, but to always remember that there is a much higher authority than anything we will ever find on Earth.

My son made me look like a moron in front of my kids. How do I recover?

My son is 18 and is a register manager at Wal-Mart so I really respect his wisdom. I have no idea where he got this idea but he told me Anne Frank (as in the diary of anne frank) was buried in tight designer jeans. Since we had a weeks lesson on Anne Frank in my classroom, I told a room full of third grade students what my son told me. I ended up getting in so much trouble with the school board. Parents called in and complained that I told their kids that! My boss (the principal) told me he was beyond astounded that I would say something so dimwitted. I feel so upset at my son for this! Why would he abuse his authority and lie to me like this!? I am so embarrassed I didn't even go to work at all this week. I've just been sitting around at home watching TV, crying and having a little 'me time' (which is REEEAAAALLLLLY nice since my husband doesn't always deliver ;))

I love Jehovah's Witnesses as people, but...What Am I Not so Happy about?

Most of them are very confused with the conflicting messages they are getting; almost hypocritical at times. None of them can think for themselves. Right up the top of their pyramid, there is their governing body, about 7 men apparently; this is the evil behind their thoughts

How does Jesus expect us to love our enemies?

According to Mat 5:44, Jesus tells us to love our enemies, but how does he expect us to do that? It's either you love your enemy with a false love (because no one can honestly love that which one despises) or not see your enemy as your enemy. If it's the latter, then does this mean that Jesus wants me to have frenemies (friends that are really my enemies) and not see them as frenemies but as friends? If so, then why wasn't Jesus friends with the Pharisees?

Do Jehovah's Witnesses "love" their enemies, Like the Pharisees did?

I asked a JW if it is showing Christian "love" when they are told to "hate" a person for leaving their religion. The answer was "yes, we are told we cannot speak with , say a greeting to, or in any way have anything to do with them beyond directing them to their needs in a business setting." I must ask, "How" is this a show of "Christian love"? If the departed or "ex-member" is now considered as a "tax-collector", or "man of the nations"?, didn't Jesus actually speak to, and take flack from the pharisees for doing so? Are the Jehovah's Witnesses acting like Christ, or like the Pharisees???

Why do Christians not follow O.T law, when Jesus said he was there to uphold it?

Romans 10:4 says Christ is the end of the law. Obviously, therefore, Jesus was contrasting the endurability of heaven and earth and that of the law "not being fulfilled." Law does not teach righteousness, otherwise, Israel would have been righteous. Rather, law merely restrains wickedness. For example, if law were removed from this country, how would the majority of its citizens react? Would they demonstrate love and goodness or steal and plunder? So when law is removed, the heart is revealed. Because it reveals man's true wickedness. That is why Paul said that governmental law is "God's avenger." It keeps mankind from total chaos. (Romans 13:1-8). So it was with the Mosaic Law. It was also God's means of expressing his attitude toward man's misconduct. However, law does not instill righteousness in the heart. Therefore, the law was temporary. If the Mosaic law were still in effect, Christians would have to perform a number of impractical compliances such as building a fence around the roof of their houses, running to a city of refuge in case of accidental murder, and finding a place outside their residence to "go to the restroom." (Deuteronomy 22:8,Numbers 35:6, Deuteronomy 23:12, 13) We no longer live by the letter of the law but by the spirit of the law, the principles behind the law. When a street light goes out, do we run the light? Hardly! We recognize the principle of respect for life and so slow down and check for traffic. Likewise, we may not have the law but operate by the principles behind them. Righteousness is a streetlight with green commandments that instrct us what to do and red laws that tell us what not to do. But it is the yellow principles that reveal the heart. Whereas it is intended as a caution to slow down many use it as an excuse to speed up. And so rather than yield to godly principles, many excuse themselves and run to do badness. Regardless, God is allowing what les hearts to be revealed so that when he arrives to judge, man will have shown his true nature.
